Did you know that the net cooling effect of a young, healthy tree is equivalent to ten room-size air conditions operating 20 hours a day? Or that if you plant a tree on the west side of your home, in 5 years your energy bill should be 3% lower and in 15 years, it will be nearly 12% lower? These are just a few of the values that trees provide to residents. Others include cooling the environment, increasing property values, treating stormwater, mitigating climate change, and enhancing the general aesthetic of a neighborhood. The City of San Antonio wants to significantly increase tree canopy cover throughout the city.
